The European Values Study gathers in Sarajevo

National representatives of more than 20 countries gather in Sarajevo for the General Assembly of the European Values Study (EVS) on 5-6 June 2025 at the University of Sarajevo - Faculty of Philosophy.

The EVS is the largest cross-national, repeated cross-sectional survey research programme on basic human values in Europe. Since 1981, it provides insights into the ideas, beliefs, preferences, attitudes, values and opinions, covering up to 47 countries.

The European Values Study allows the study of a wide range of human values. The main topics concern family, work, environment, perceptions of life, politics and society, religion and morality, national identity.

During the meeting in Sarajevo, the EVS partners will discuss the implementation of the upcoming new wave of the EVS, planned for 2026. In addition to the finalization of the questionnaire, that will have more than 70% of overlap with the World Values Survey thanks to the ongoing cooperation between the two organizations, the meeting will address aspects concerning the methodological guidelines, the data workflow, a tutorial for the management of translations and fieldwork. Also, dissemination activities and opportunities for further scientific cooperation will be discussed.

The EVS national team in Bosnia-Herzegovina, composed by prof. dr. Jadranka Kolenović-Đapo (National Program Director), prof. dr. Ivan Rimac, methodology expert from the University u Zagrebu, prof.dr Jelena Brkić Šmigoc, participates in the European Values Study since 2008, and new members of EVS in Bosnia and Herzegovina, prof. Dr. Jelena Gaković and Prof. Dr. Tomislav Tadić.
