Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt visited the University of Sarajevo
The newly appointed Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Bosnia and Herzegovina, H.E. Yasser Sorour visited the University of Sarajevo on 9 February, 2021. He met there with Rector, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj and Vice-Rectors: Prof. Dr. Enita Nakaš, Prof. Dr. Tamara Karača Beljak and Prof. Dr. Mirza Dautbašić.
With a strong commitment to continuing successful cooperation between the University of Sarajevo and the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in BiH, the meeting discussed strengthening ties through various models of academic and cultural cooperation, and intensifying existing cooperation between the University of Sarajevo and universities in Egypt.
As part of the first Ambassador’s official visit to the University of Sarajevo, Rector Škrijelj, with words of welcome, expressed gratitude for the visit and the expressed intention to improve cooperation. Speaking about the international cooperation of the University, Rector Škrijelj stated that the University of Sarajevo has signed agreements on academic cooperation with two universities in Egypt: Ain Shams University and the University of Cairo.
Also, during the meeting ideas were exchanged on possible areas of cooperation between the University of Sarajevo and universities in Egypt, organizing joint online courses and seminars, as well as exchanging students and teachers, and providing short-term training and joint research. Topics of conversation were also programs for improving and learning Arabic at universities in Egypt, scholarships for Arabic students provided by the Government of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the support of the Embassy of Egypt to the Faculty of Philosophy through the engagement of lecturers - native Arabic speakers.
It was concluded that processes will be initiated to intensify the current and achieve new forms of cooperation, and that it is necessary to use scholarship programs in order to strengthen cultural ties between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Egypt.
