Minister Husić-Mehmedović and Rector Škrijelj visited the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and the Oriental Institute

On 24 February 2021, KS Minister of Science, Higher Education and Youth Prof. Dr. Melika Husić-Mehmedović and University of Sarajevo Rector Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj continued visits to the organizational units of the University of Sarajevo and on that occasion visited the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and the Oriental Institute.
The visits were also attended by Prof. Dr. Dušanka Bošković, UNSA Vice Rector for Quality, Prof. Dr. Samir Dolarević, President of the Council of the Group of Technical Sciences and Prof. Dr. Darko Tomašević, President of the Council of the Group of Humanities.
During organized visits to see the circumstances, in which the faculties operate, and the priorities and problems that need to be addressed through joint action of the University and the Ministry, Minister Husić-Mehmedović presented the progress made in establishing a new Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Youth KS, and current processes conducted at the level of the Ministry. Speaking about allocations for science, she reminded that 3 million KM will be allocated for science this year, which will, among other things, enable the strengthening of research capacities, and stressed the need to prepare the highest quality projects in the field of scientific research infrastructure supported by budget funds allocated to science.
Faculty of Electrical Engineering Dean, Prof. Dr. Jasmin Velagić presented the key activities and results of the work, and especially emphasized the scientific contribution and achievements, and also presented the infrastructural capacities, as well as the circumstances in which online classes are conducted.
It was pointed out that since 2012, the first cycle study programs at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering have an international certificate from the accreditation agency for study programs ASIIN from Germany, which confirms that the first cycle study programs are in the fields of automation and electronics, power engineering, computing and informatics and telecommunications in their content and manner of performance fully comply with the norms of higher education valid in the European Union. On this occasion, the project “Application of quantum cyber security in 5G networks” (QUANTUM5) was presented, in which the Faculty of Electrical Engineering is a partner, and which is funded under the NATO SPS (Science for Peace and Security) program. As pointed out, this is the first research project in the field of 5G and quantum cryptography in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During the presentation of the Oriental Institute, Dr. Adnan Kadrić, director commented on the history and development of the Institute, and presented the team that operates within 3 departments: history, philology and Oriental-Islamic culture and civilization. As Dr. Kadrić pointed out, the Institute deals with the processing and publication of manuscripts and archives in Arabic, Turkish and Persian, as well as the study of oriental languages and literature, and focuses on the study of intellectual history and cultural and artistic heritage of Bosnia during the Ottoman rule. It was pointed out that most of the manuscripts stored in the Oriental Institute have already been digitized, both those saved from the fire (53 manuscript codes) and "new" manuscripts acquired in the post-war period. Dr. Kadrić emphasized that Oriental Institute will continue to collect material, create a digital database for researchers, and create preconditions for the application of high scientific and technical standards in order to be able to engage in more intensive cooperation with similar scientific research institutions in the region and the world.
Drafting a new law on higher education in KS, reviewing the current situation, recording possible difficulties in the work and improving cooperation as well as the implementation of the teaching process, space capacity and modernization of equipment were just some of the topics of conversation.
