Language Institute of the University of Sarajevo in the project – the production of textbooks “Cultural and social history of the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina”

Institut za jezik učestvovao u projektu izrade udžbenika „Kulturna i društvena povijest / (h)istorija naroda Bosne i Hercegovine“

At the invitation of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a meeting was held attended by the participants in the project – the production of textbooks “Cultural and social history of the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina” intended for supplementary classes in elementary school from the 5th to the 9th grade, for Bosnian Herzegovinian emigration.
The meeting took place in an academic and friendly atmosphere with respect, and academic attitude towards colleagues and professionals, sharing the pleasure that we are part of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian project that opened the space for scientific work to be in the function of support and basic education. Successful implementation of this project is an example of systemic action at the state level. On this occasion, proposals for some projects that could improve the education system in Bosnia and Herzegovina and support the citizens from Bosnia and Herzegovina are presented.
For this occasion, the Language Institute of the University of Sarajevo has gathered a professional team from different fields, because the textbook includes six national disciplines: language, literature, music culture, fine arts, geography and history. It was necessary to take into account the whole set of specific factors that must be observed when making this type of manuscript, and that it is substantially adapted to the Curriculum and Complementary Teaching Program in the emigration; that there are no methodical and conceptual deviations among the areas; that adequately represent all the relevance of extremely complex material for carrying out teaching in the field of national disciplines and to methodically respond to the students for whom it is intended. This textbook also has an integrating factor for all citizens originating from Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is also available on-line, and distributed throughout the world.
The significance of this project is also in the fact that this is the first textbook of this type intended for BH emigration in complementary schools from the 5th to the 9th grade of the elementary school, and that the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina are behind this project, which is an indicator of positive trends.
We thank Mr. Husić and associate Alma Ćatović at the invitation, as well as all the colleagues who decided to be part of this team.
