At the Faculty of Islamic Sciences (FIN), University of Sarajevo, a collection of papers entitled Islamic Law and International Humanitarian Law, created through the joint efforts of this Faculty and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Bosnia and Herzegovina was presented on 18 February 2020.

The academic papers in the Proceedings were derived from jointly organized conferences, primarily a scientific conference held in September 2018 in Sarajevo.
Through the papers, authors who have spent much of their academic work dealing with international humanitarian law or Islamic law answer the questions that have emerged as crucial in the discussions.

The Proceedings were presented by Prof. Dr. Zuhdija Hasanović, University of Sarajevo Faculty of Islamic Sciences Dean, Dr. Elmir Camić, Head of the ICRC Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Doz. Dr. Nedim Begović, professor at FIN and one of the authors.

“We should not forget that as Muslims, we do not lose, to the least extent possible, our relationship with one another, when help is most needed. Our goal is to understand the basics of Islam, the Qur'an and the Sunnah of the God’s Prophet, to talk about war, peace and conflict, and how to overcome those conflicts. This is especially important in our country because these religious sentiments are often abused” said Dean Hasanović.
He added that the goal of the promotion is to convey the message that true faith in God is actually an effort to love His creatures, not to commit crimes against them.

Elmir Camić recalled, among other things, that international humanitarian law stems from the Geneva Conventions.
"Some people say these are no longer relevant things. However, the last few years have shown that these conventions and international humanitarian law are still relevant because they are the basis for the protection of civilians, medical and humanitarian workers” added Camić.

The promotion was moderated by Doz. Dr. Zehra Alispahić, Faculty of Islamic Sciences professor, and Martin Schüepp, regional director of the ICRC for Europe and Central Asia, who attended the promotion.
