International Symposium ”Music in Society” in cooperation with the Music Academy and Musicology Association marked the year 2018

The Music Academy, University of Sarajevo and the Musicology Association of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina realized the 11th edition of the International Musicological Symposium “Music in Society” in Sarajevo from 25 to 27 October 2018, as the most important project this year between the two institutions in cooperation lasting two decades.
This year, the symposium gathered 55 participants from 9 countries to 18 sessions, and presented research in the fields of musicology, ethnomusicology, music theory and pedagogy, in the continuity of a constant mission of systematic and critical reflection on the issue of music in society.
The second concert was dedicated to BH composition of the 21st century, which for the first time instead of a historical view, focuses on the current creations. Concerto Inter nose presented the works of contemporary BH composer, mostly Academy professors, including Belma Bešlić-Gal, Ivan Čavlović, Hanan Hadžajlić, Asim Horozić, Igor Karača, Živko Ključ, Dino Rešidbegović, Ališer Sijarić and Dario Vučić. The concert was held at the Music Academy in Sarajevo on 25 October, featuring Suzana Bevanda-Sijarić (piano), Hanan Hadžajlić (flute), Sakib Lačević (flute), Azra Medić (piano), Mirna Mlikota (flute) , Dragan Opančić (piano), Sonja Radojković (piano), Dino Rešidbegović (modular sound synthesizer), Belma Šarančić-Nahodović (harmonica), and Vedran Tuco (clarinet).
The concert was the opening ceremony’s conclusion, after which followed the lecture by Irish academician Harry White (University College Dublin.
The last concert of the Symposium was dedicated to the BH traditional music: Ensemble Etnoakademik presented the performances of BH music tradition in the Ceremonial Hall of the UNSA Rectorate on 26 October 2018. This concert followed the lecture of the renowned ethnomusicologist Razia Sultanova, Cambridge University professor. The Symposium was held with the support of the Federal Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth of the Sarajevo Canton, the Embassy of Ireland, the University of Sarajevo and the Academy of Performing Arts.
