Art as a way of life: Open Concert Season of the UNSA Academy of Music
The UNSA Music Academy opened its 2020/2021 Concert Season this week. The concert, held at the House of the Armed Forces of BiH on Friday, 23 October was attended by ten young artists, who are among the best students of art departments, and most of them are already well known to the Sarajevo audience of art music.
The concert opened with the composition We Bop by the Australian composer Gerard Brophy, written in 1995 for alto saxophone and vibraphone, performed by Ivona Šiško and Marino Repanić. The melody of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky on the violin was interpreted by second-year student Alex Mateescu. Pianist Nadir Hošić introduced himself to the Pour le piano suite of the French Impressionist Claude Debussy, and after him Ariana Piknjač performed virtuoso variations of Airs Valaques by Albert Franz Doppler. In the double role of a student in the departments of piano and composition, Mirza Gološ presented the premiere of his composition SYNC to BUG written for piano and tape. The stubborn trio consisting of Azmir Halilović, Danijel Lovrić and Asmir Hamzić played the accordions and at the end they danced the song by the Spanish composer Gorka Hermos Ka mate. The item of the concert was the rarely performed cycle by Hugo Wolf Michelangelo-Lieder performed by bass Ivan Šarić.
After Concert Season, 2020/2021 the opening concert, the presentation of the book by Prof. Dr. Belma Šarančić “Application of Alexander technique in accordion” will be held on 13 November in the BKC Sarajevo Atrium and a concert of guests from the Music Academy from Zagreb Krešimir Lazar and Domagoj Guščić on 14 November in the hall of the High School Sarajevo, with sonatas for cello and piano Ludwig van Beethoven. A gala concert in honor of the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth, at which quartets by composer Prof. MSc. Ališer Sijarić and Prof. Dr. Dino Rešidbegović, is planned for 17 December in the City Hall. The recital of Doz. Mr. Azra Medić, concerts by students, the vocal ensemble Etnoakademik, and the choir and orchestra of the Academy, and a number of other events are underway.
The decision to organize this year’s Concert Season was neither easy nor straightforward, and it required a lot of courage and attention so that the concerts could be held in strict compliance with epidemiological measures. Convinced that the need for art is one of the basic human needs because art ennobles and strengthens the spirit in a way that cannot be replaced by anything else, teachers and students of the Music Academy will make all necessary efforts to keep music with its audience in a time of challenge put before us a pandemic. For this reason, the concerts will be prepared in the best possible way, albeit with a minimal audience, and most will be recorded and thus be available to everyone.
