Minister Nikolić: The strategy of media and information literacy is one of the key steps towards improving the quality of education

Ministrica Nikolić: Strategija medijske i informacijske pismenosti jedan je od ključnih koraka ka unapređenju kvaliteta obrazovanja

At the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Sarajevo, consultations were held on policies and strategies of media and information literacy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and on that occasion, the Draft Strategy of Media and Information Literacy in the field of education in Sarajevo Canton was presented.

The newly appointed Minister of Science, Higher Education and Youth, Prof. Dr. Aleksandra Nikolić addressed the audience via a video link and pointed out that the adoption of this strategy is one of the key steps for the development of higher education and the improvement of its quality.

She stressed that the need to adopt a strategy for media and information literacy has imposed itself as a public and social imperative, and that universal access to information and knowledge is a prerequisite for achieving a developed, open and inclusive society.

The draft strategy for media and information literacy in the field of education in the Sarajevo Canton was prepared by the Ministries of Education, Science, Higher Education and Youth of the KS.

Numerous participants from relevant sectors made a significant contribution during the consultations on media and information literacy policies and strategies in Bosnia and Herzegovina, organized by the Institute for Social Research of the Faculty of Political Sciences in Sarajevo. Among them are: the University of Sarajevo and the University of East Sarajevo, the BiH Ministry of Civil Affairs, the Communications Regulatory Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the UNESCO Office in BiH, the EU Delegation - Department for European Integration, Political Affairs and the International Association of School Librarians.
