The European Night of Researchers has been held since 2005 across Europe under the European Commission’s initiative as a part of the FP7, and the present Horizon 2020 program, and gathers a large number of visitors and researchers.
The goal of the Night since 2005 is to promote scientific research and career of scientists-researchers, as well as to raise awareness among the general public about the impact of research on everyday life. The promotion of science and scientific research at the Researchers Night involves numerous activities with the focus on presenting researchers in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, highlighting the positive impact of researchers on everyday life, and promoting the career of researchers, especially among young people.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina the science and research work has been held for the seventh year in a row, and this year the event was realized under the slogan "Let's STEAM: Create new opportunities" in ten cities throughout BiH.
This year, the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Industry of the University of Sarajevo participated in the “Researchers Night”, held in Sarajevo, at the interactive science and innovation fair within the event, which was held at Vilsonovo šetališe.
Faculty Representatives, in cooperation with students, presented projects in the field of information and communication technologies in agriculture at the fair. In addition, they prepared a lot of interesting content for the youngest visitors to the fair, introducing them to the world of agricultural and food science. This year visitors to the Agricultural and Food Faculties were able to determine the content of sugar in the fruits of apples, to get acquainted with the tests of determining the optimal moment of fruit harvesting, observing insects under the magnifying glass, and learning how plants adopt water. Certainly, little experiments with dry ice attracted the greatest attention of the visitors.
In the competitive part of the event, thanks to the commitment and enthusiasm of all members of the team, the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences won the first place. This is the third time that the Faculty of Agriculture and Food has won high positions in the mentioned event, since it has won the 3rd place for the most innovative presentation in the fair for the past two years.
