At the commemorative session of the University of Sarajevo Rectorate and the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics held on 16 October 2020 in the University of Sarajevo Ceremonial Hall, family members, friends, colleagues and academic community representatives said goodbye to Prof. Dr. Mustafa Memić, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics professor and Dean in the term of office 2016–2020.

On behalf of the University of Sarajevo Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Department of Chemistry, Prof. Dr. Nevzeta Ljubijankić, Head of the Department delivered a eulogy and commented on the significant contribution of Prof. Dr. Mustafa Memić to the development of the Faculty and cooperation with him.
“Professor Mustafa Memić was a great chemist and a great teacher, extremely appreciated among students and colleagues. He considered the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics to be his second home and treated it that way. He was an assistant, professor, mentor, colleague, boss, dean. He was an unobtrusive, but strong authority, a professional, modest and generous man,” said Professor Ljubijankić.

University of Sarajevo Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Dean, Prof. Dr. Nusret Drešković, said also goodbye to Prof. Dr. Nusret Drešković. In speaking about Professor Memić as a professor, leader, but also about his academic work, Dean Drešković pointed out that Professor Memić was an unobtrusive, modest and generous man with many virtues, and added that Professor Memić's departure was an irreparable loss for the staff of the Faculty of Science. Emphasizing the memorable academic work of Professor Memić, he stated that he especially had great patience and respect for young people, students, and that the immense support he provided to the work of colleagues.

Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, University of Sarajevo Rector, in his address pointed out that Professor Memić and the University of Sarajevo have a lot in common.
“Professor Memić dedicated his life to the University and the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. He lived the life of an honest man. He was dedicated to his family and work. He loved the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and was dedicated and fair in performing the function of Dean said Rector Škrijelj. He also added that Professor Memić made a great contribution to the defense of our country. Emphasizing the dedication with which Professor Memić trained graduates, masters and doctoral students, Rector Škrijelj pointed out that with his departure, the chemistry laboratory will suffer a heavy loss.

“What remains an obligation for us, the University, is not to forget his honesty, dedication to work and love for the Faculty and family, and to remember him for the good he deserved and left behind,” said Rector Škrijelj.

Prof. Dr. Mustafa Memić obtained the title of graduate engineer of chemistry at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, University of Sarajevo, where he also completed his postgraduate studies and defended his doctoral dissertation. He was an expert associate at the “Center for Research and Development of New Metals”, assistant at the Department of Analytical Chemistry, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, senior assistant in the field of Analytical Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry, assistant professor in the field of Analytical Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry, associate professor for the same field, and since 2016 a full professor.
He was an active member of the Organizing Committee and the Scientific Committee for the organization of the First and Second Congress of Chemists and Technologists of BiH, a member of the Society of Chemists and Technologists of Sarajevo Canton, a member of the Editorial Board of the Bulletin of Chemists and Technologists of BiH. for Environment in the Technical Committee of the Institute for Standardization of BiH, Associate of the Institute for Accreditation of BiH as an expert assessor, President of the Assembly of the Society of Chemists and Technologists of Sarajevo Canton, Head of the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Vice Dean for Teaching and Scientific Research of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and from 1 October 2016, Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.
He published more than 20 original scientific papers in recognized publications, and participated in several international scientific and professional conferences where he presented as an author and co-author 18 papers whose abstracts were published in proceedings. As a co-author and author, he wrote three peer-reviewed university textbooks, and participated in the realization of three international scientific research projects. He was a member of the scientific and organizational committee for the organization of three domestic congresses with international participation. He was a reviewer of three university textbooks, as well as nine scientific papers in reference journals.
He had a rich teaching and pedagogical experience in working at several University of Sarajevo Faculties. He showed especially successful results in his work with students of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in the implementation of teaching in a number of subjects in the field of Analytical Chemistry. He was a mentor of two successfully defended doctoral dissertations, a large number of master's theses and final theses of the second cycle of studies, as well as final theses of the first cycle of studies and graduate theses.
