Workshop "Open Science at the University of Sarajevo: Initiatives and Support for Researchers" Held as Part of the HE Project Policy Answers

The workshop entitled "Open Science at the University of Sarajevo: Initiatives and Support for Researchers" was held on 30 September 2025, at the UNSA Rectorate. The workshop was implemented as part of the Horizon Europe project "POLICE ANSWERS – Support for R&I Policy Making, Implementation and Support in the Western Balkans", which aims to strengthen the capacities of relevant institutions and stakeholders in the field of research and development, in accordance with identified needs, strategic documents, and in accordance with the priorities defined by the Western Balkans Progress Agenda.
The workshop participants, representatives of the member institutions of the University of Sarajevo, had the opportunity to learn about various initiatives aimed at implementing the concept of open science at the University of Sarajevo, such as: the ORN project - Strengthening joint scientific research infrastructure, technology transfer and strengthening cooperation with the private sector, the Open Science Policy of the University of Sarajevo, and open access scientific journals.
In the introductory part of the workshop program, the participants were welcomed by the Vice-Rector for Scientific Research of the University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Naris Pojskić, emphasizing the importance of the concept of open science as well as the efforts of the University towards its implementation. Other speakers were Prof. Dr. Lejla Turulja, Head of the ORN project team, Prof. Dr. Maja Arslanagić-Kalajdžić, Director of the Center for Research and Development of the University of Sarajevo, and M. Sc. Nadina Grebović-Lendo, Director of the University of Sarajevo Library. In the final part of the program, Lejla Čamo, MA, coordinator of the European Researchers' Night for BiH, addressed the participants and spoke about the importance of presenting and promoting science to the wider public.
The University of Sarajevo is one of 13 partners within the Policy Answers project, while the project is implemented within the departments for scientific research, which are the Center for Research and Development and the Scientific Research Service.
