Sarajevo Canton Government and University of Sarajevo Delegation Visits UNSA Library Construction Site: Intensive Final Works Underway

The construction of the University of Sarajevo Library is entering its final phase. Intensive craft and installation works are currently being carried out on the facility. The site was visited today by Nihad Uk, Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton; Dušanka Bošković, Minister of Science, Higher Education and Youth; Mladen Pandurević, Minister of Communal Economy, Infrastructure, Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection; Darja Softić-Kadenić, Minister of Justice and Administration; Vildana Bešlija, Deputy in the Sarajevo Canton Assembly; Tarik Zaimović, Rector University of Sarajevo (UNSA) Rector; and Irfan Mirza, a university professor and long-time Microsoft expert.

Extensive interior craft works are currently underway at the construction site. On floors +1 and +2, wooden and gypsum board suspended ceilings are being installed, along with plastering and painting. Acoustic panels are being constructed in the amphitheater, while wall and ceiling painting is being finalized in the administrative section. On floor -2, epoxy flooring is being installed, while modular flooring is being laid in the reading area on floor +1.

Parallel works are being conducted on construction locksmithing and carpentry, including the installation of wooden door leaves, internal railings, and other locksmithing elements. As part of external and mechanical installations, a reinforced concrete mechanical channel for air intake and exhaust is being constructed. Installation and equipping works are following the planned schedule, including the installation of lighting fixtures and electrical cabinets, as well as the installation of sanitary ware in toilets and wet rooms.

Prime Minister Uk emphasized that the construction of the University Library is part of the broader efforts of the Government of Sarajevo Canton to improve conditions for education, science, and research.

"I believe that the University Library will become a recognizable center of cultural, scientific, and social life in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with its doors open to all citizens and researchers. I proudly confirm that Sarajevo Canton places knowledge, science, and young people at the absolute top of its priorities and long-term development plans," stated Uk.

Minister Bošković addressed the work schedule and the planned opening of the library:

"The construction of the University Library at the University of Sarajevo Campus is in the final phase of interior design. We had hoped it would be completed last month, but it is important to see that the storage areas are being arranged, that specialized spaces are being finalized, and that we can plan an opening for the middle of next year. Thus, students and academic staff of the University will obtain a modern space for work and research."

UNSA Rector, Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović, emphasized the goals of the new institution.

"The new University of Sarajevo Library will be a modern space for knowledge, research, and dialogue, intended for students, professors, and researchers from Bosnia and Herzegovina and around the world. It will provide access to rich library collections and digital resources, with the primary goal of developing innovations and strengthening academic excellence," declared Zaimović.

The University Library will be located in the eastern part of the UNSA Campus, in the immediate vicinity of the Embassy of the United States of America. It is the first constructed building that clearly illustrates the future appearance and concept of a modern Campus. The facility spans an area of 7,000 square meters, with a focus on applying state-of-the-art technologies and full accessibility for persons with disabilities. Users will have access to between 658 and 664 seats, modern reading rooms, multimedia halls, digital archives, and spaces for conferences and research work.

The Government of Sarajevo Canton announced its continued commitment, in cooperation with UNSA and international partners, to ensure the continuation of the construction of other campus segments. The goal is to create an integrated university space that will provide students and the academic community with all necessary resources in one location.
