International conference “Responsibility and Future: European Memory Culture through the Example of Srebrenica”

The University of Sarajevo is pleased to draw attention to the international expert conference “Responsibility and Future: European Memory Culture through the Example of Srebrenica” by Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU Munich), which will take place on 24 September 2026 in Germany within the framework of a European research and cooperation context.
This distinguished event will bring together leading scholars, the Representation of the European Commission in Germany, as well as representatives of the Srebrenica Memorial Center, to discuss the significance of memory culture for democracy, European values, and social responsibility.
The University of Sarajevo will be represented by Dr. Hikmet Karčić, an internationally recognized expert in genocide research and memory culture, who will contribute the perspective of Bosnia and Herzegovina to this high-level European academic dialogue.
The cooperation between the University of Sarajevo and LMU Munich, within the framework of the interdisciplinary research project “The Children of the Balkans – Bosnia and Herzegovina,” exemplifies the importance of academic cooperation across national borders. It makes a significant contribution to the further development of the European Research Area, the sustainable strengthening of European understanding, as well as academic and societal networking between Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Balkan region, and the European diaspora. In the field of memory culture, this cooperation creates an important space for transnational exchange, historical reflection, and the development of shared European perspectives.
