Participation of Academic Staff from the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences at the 8th International Seed Congress in Antalya, Turkey

The 8th International Seed Congress, held in Antalya, Turkey, in 2024, brought together experts and researchers from the field of seed science from around the world. This congress served as a platform for knowledge exchange, presentation of research findings, and discussions on the latest technologies and innovations in the seed sector in horticulture.

 

Representatives from the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Science at the University of Sarajevo, professors Lutvija Karić, Jasna Avdić, and Fikreta Behmen, and assistant Ćerima Zahirović Sinanović, MA, actively participated in the poster section of the congress, presenting their research through poster presentations. This session was well-attended, and the presented papers sparked significant interest and discussion among the congress participants.

 

Notably, Ćerima Zahirović Sinanović, MA, had the honor of chairing the "Seed Production & Technology" section, demonstrating exceptional professionalism in moderating the session, coordinating presentations and discussions, and facilitating productive exchanges of ideas among participants.

 

The congress covered various topics, including:

  • Seed growing technologies in horticulture,
  • Sustainable practices in seed production,
  • Biotechnological innovations in plant breeding,
  • The impact of climate change on seed production.

On the margins of the congress, multiple connections were established with researchers and industry representatives, opening up opportunities for future collaboration and joint projects. Participation in the 8th International Seed Congress 2024 represents a significant contribution to the professional development and international affirmation of the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Science.

 

During their stay, the participants visited the company Genetika Tohum, where they learned about the latest varieties of tomatoes and peppers, with a focus on the importance of possessing their own certified seed production. This visit further enriched their knowledge and provided insight into innovative approaches in the seed sector.

 

Special thanks are extended to the organizing committee, particularly the Turkish Union of Seed Producers (TÜRKTOB) and the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Ankara, for excellent organization of this important event. Heartfelt appreciation is also expressed to Professor Dr. Cengiz Sancak from the University of Ankara and Rector of the International University of Sarajevo (IUS), Professor Dr. Ahmet Yildirim, who extended the invitations and enabled participation in this significant event.
