Shenandoah University and Bridgewater College Representatives Visited University of Sarajevo

Representatives of the Shenandoah University Winchester and Bridgewater College visited the University of Sarajevo Rectorate on 6 March 2019, where they had a meeting with Rector, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj.


A visiting delegation consisting student, management of universities, academic and administrative staff representatives of these two US universities was organized within the project funded by the Jamal Barzinji Foundation.


During the visit, three sessions were organized: the presentation of the University of Sarajevo, the presentation of the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the presentation of the UNSA Student Parliament.


The Jamal Barzini project, represents the collaboration between US universities, the University of Sarajevo and the IIUM in Malaysia entitled “Development of Higher Education in Multiethnic Societies”, aims at developing joint activities on the civil discourse development and intercultural competences of students and employees, as well as local communities. The project was financed by a foundation founded by the Sterling Management Group led by Dr. Yaqub Mirza.


Rector Škrijelj expressed his great honor and pleasure over the visit that happened within the celebration of University of Sarajevo’s 70th Anniversary. He said the following “Two Theological Faculties: Faculty of Islamic Sciences and Faculty of Catholic Theology are full members of the University of Sarajevo. It is precisely the cooperation on this project, which includes two of our theological Faculties that is extremely important. The University of Sarajevo, as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina as a state, are multiethnic societies, and I am free to claim that unity of diversity is achieved here very successfully, The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Aida Hodžić, Vice-Rector for Teaching and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Aleksandra Nikolić, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Dženana Husremović, Vice-Rector for Research, Prof. Sanja Burić, Vice-Rector for Arts, Culture and Sports, Prof. Dr. Amir Duranović and President of the Student Parliament Hamza Vahid El-Din.


During the course of the meeting, Prof. Dr. Nikolić and Prof. Dr. Husremović presented the University of Sarajevo’s activities and development and future plans related to international cooperation and research.


During the meeting, the joint participation in the important Jamal Barzina project and the possibilities and ways of connecting the universities were discussed.


During this visit, a round table discussion will be held at the Faculty of Political Sciences, University of Sarajevo and a presentation of an interdisciplinary study run by the three Theological Faculties at the Faculty of Islamic Sciences will be held.
