The UNSA Music Academy concert season continues: an online concert by guitarist Vedran Vujica

Koncertna sezona Muzičke akademije UNSA nastavlja aktivnost: online koncert gitariste Vedrana Vujice

The University of Sarajevo Music Academy presents a concert of the alumnus of this institution, guitarist Vedran Vujica, which was held on Tuesday, 23 March 2021 in the concert hall "Cvjetko Rihtman" within the program of the Concert Season 2020/21. Due to the extremely complex epidemiological situation in Sarajevo Canton, this event was closed. Given that the current circumstances have prevented the audience from attending, a recording of the concert will be available to the public on Monday, March 29, 2021, on the YouTube channel of the MAS Concert Season.

The concert opened with a performance of the famous Violin Part no. 2 in D minor BWV 1004 by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) from the cycle Sonata and Partita for solo violin, written in the period from 1717 to 1720, which belongs to the major works of the violin repertoire. The structure of the composition relies on a baroque suite, an instrumental multi-part form composed of a series of stylized dances. The key characteristic of this form is the principle of contrast, which is reflected in the different character of individual parts of the composition, while their unity maintains a common tonality. On this occasion, the audience will be able to hear four movements of Bach's partita: Allemanda, Corrente, Sarabanda and Giga, transcribed for guitar.

The program also includes the musical piece Capricho árabe (1892), one of the most recognizable works of the Spanish composer and virtuoso Francisco Tárrega (1852-1909), who is credited with the affirmation of the art of guitar. The work was created during the composer's stay in Valencia, a place where elements of Christian and Islamic culture have intertwined throughout history. In the composition, in the character sense, the romantic elements of the serenade are recognized, and the beginning, which alludes to the poppy, contributes to the melodic impression.

A part of the repertoire also was Variations on the theme ‘O cara armonia’ op. 9 by the Spanish composer and guitarist Fernando Sora (1778-1839) from 1821. The aria Das klinget so herrlich, known in Italian as O cara armonia from the first act of the opera The Magic Flute by the Viennese classicist Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1770-1791), was used as the basis of the composition. For simplicity, this melody served as a theme for variation, from which will develop a work that has been recognized in the guitar literature as attractive in an interpretive sense.

The concert ended with a performance of the composition Black Hole, composed for the Sarajevo International Guitar Festival in 2012 by Slovenian composer Nejc Kuhar (1987), whose work the eminent Washington Post described as "eclectic and fun".

Vedran Vujica (1993) graduated in 2016 from the University of Sarajevo Music Academy in the class of Professor Đani Šehu. During his schooling, he participated in numerous national and international competitions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro and Italy, where he was awarded many times.
