Recital and master workshop by Professor Gottlieb Wallisch at the UNSA Academy of Music

The UNSA Academy of Music (MAS UNSA) announces the visit of Gottlieb Wallisch, a prominent Austrian pianist and professor at the University of Arts in Berlin (UdK Berlin), realized in cooperation with the Austrian Cultural Forum in Bosnia and Herzegovina. During his stay at the Academy of Music, pianist Wallisch will hold a recital that will be held on Monday, 29 November 2021, at 19:00 in the “Cvjetko Rihtman” Concert Hall, and a day later, on 30 November he will hold a master workshop for students Piano Department.

The concert repertoire will include the Piano Sonata in E flat major, Hob. XVI/49 from the late opus of Joseph Haydn, as well as three compositions by Ludwig van Beethoven, including Fantasia for piano in G minor, Op. 77, Andante favorites in F major, WoO 57, and Polonaise in C major, Op. 89. After the work of the Viennese classics, Prof. Wallisch will also perform Sonata for piano in A major, D.959 by Franz Schubert, one of the key representatives of early musical romanticism.

Gottlieb Wallisch (b. 1978, Vienna) debuted as a twelve-year-old in the Musikverein's “Golden Hall” in Vienna, and a turning point in the early stages of his career was a concert in which he performed Beethoven's Piano and Orchestra Concerto Op. 73, no. 5 in E flat major, better known as “Imperial”, accompanied by the Sinfoni Varsovi Orchestra under the baton of conductor Yehudi Menuhin. This event marked the beginning of his rich piano practice, which included performances in prestigious world concert halls, such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Wigmore Hall in London, Cologne Philharmonic, Tonhalle in Zurich and NCPA in Beijing, but also performances at festivals such as Ruhr Piano Festival, Beethovenfest in Bonn, Lucerne and Salzburg Festivals, December Nights in Moscow and Singapore International Art Festival.

Wallisch has collaborated with a number of orchestras including the Vienna Philharmonic, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, the Radio Frankfurt Symphony Orchestra, the Strings Lucerne Festival, the Franz Liszt Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, the Musakera Orchestra, the Baroque Orchestra and as a soloist he has performed with renowned conductors such as Giuseppe Sinopoli, Sir Neville Marriner, Dennis Russell Davies, Kirill Petrenko, Louis Langrée, Lawrence Foster, Christopher Hogwood and Bruno Weil. In 2020, he recorded the entire opus of Beethoven's piano concertos in collaboration with the Vienna Academy Orchestra and conductor Martin Haselböck.

He has lectured at the University of Music in Geneva and at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, and has held a series of masterclasses at the University of Illinois, the University of Denver, Nagoya College of Music, the Royal Academy of Music in Denmark, the St. Petersburg State Conservatory and Mozarte in Salzburg. He is currently employed as a professor at the University of the Arts in Berlin (UdK Berlin).
