Lecture by H. E. Viktor Jakovič at the Faculty of Criminalistics, Criminology and Security Studies

The Faculty of Criminalistics, Criminology and Security Studies, University of Sarajevo had the honor to host the first Ambassador of the United States of America in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Honorary Doctor of Sciences of the University of Sarajevo and honorary citizen of the City of Sarajevo, H. E. Viktor Jakovič on 19 March 2019. The students and academic staff of the Faculty were pleased to listen to a unique lecture on the topic of the chronology of the United States in South East Europe and the Balkans.
 
Mr. Jakovič has an invaluable diplomatic experience in dealing with post-socialist countries, such as Bosnia and Herzegovina. He began his presentation with a detailed explanation of the complex work of the US administrative-political apparatus, bringing it into line with the current situation in the world. After that, he exposed how social and political turmoil caused by the fall of the Berlin Wall affected the Eastern Bloc countries, explaining the diplomatic processes that took place during the turbulent periods of the dissolution of the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

Students and academic staff asked a lot of questions about the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina society, and Mr. Jakovič ended his lecture with messages on values and ways of joining NATO and the European Union.
 
Faculty Dean, Prof. Dr. Nedžad Korajlić emphasized the importance of the visit and the lectures, and the Faculty of Criminology, Criminology and Security Studies at the University of Sarajevo once again showed that students can provide invaluable interdisciplinary knowledge.
