Faculty Catholic Theology, University of Sarajevo: Fr. Theophile Habimana Becomes New Master of Theology

On Tuesday, 22 September 2026, student Theophile Habimana successfully passed his final examination at the University of Sarajevo – Catholic Theological Faculty. With this, he completed his integrated philosophical-theological study program and acquired the academic title and degree of Master of Theology.

Fr. Theophile took his final exam before a Commission consisting of Associate Prof. Dr. Mario Bernadić, President, Associate Prof. Dr. Zdenko Spajić, Member, and Associate Prof. Dr. Šimo Maršić, Mentor and Member, under whose supervision he wrote his final thesis titled "Pastoral Activity of Priests in a Synodal Church: Challenges and Perspectives."

The completion of Fr. Theophile Habimana's studies holds special significance for the Faculty Catholic Theology. Namely, he is the first student from the African continent to graduate from the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Sarajevo. At the same time, he is the first Francian friar to obtain an academic degree from this higher education institution. This success is therefore not only valuable for Fr. Theophile personally but also serves as a sign of the Faculty's openness toward the international academic and church community.

We extend our sincere congratulations to Fr. Theophile, wishing that the knowledge, human maturity, and theological formation he has acquired be fruitfully placed in the service of the Church and the community.
