DARIAH-BiH: event “Promoting Digital Infrastructure in the Field of Humanities and Arts” Successfully Held

On 5 and 6 December 2024, the event “Promoting Digital Infrastructure in the Field of Humanities and Arts” was held at the University of Sarajevo’s Rectorate as part of the project of the same name and with the support of the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Youth. The main goal of the project is to promote the importance of digital infrastructure in the field of humanities and arts in order to enable and strengthen cooperation between relevant institutions and researchers within a sustainable science system.
In the introductory part, the participants were welcomed by Prof. Dr. Naris Pojskić, Vice-Rector for Research, University of Sarajevo, emphasizing that the University of Sarajevo is committed to supporting the work of the DARIAH-BiH consortium in the hope that this research infrastructure will provide all its research institutions in BiH with the exploitation of quality data sources, the possibility of pan-European research, and increase the possibilities for financing scientific research and infrastructure projects in the field of arts and humanities.
The event was attended by Ms. Sally Chambers, Director, and Dr. Amelia McConville, Community Engagement Associate, representing DARIAH-EU, who presented the broader context of DARIAH-EU's activities, as well as very useful information regarding cooperation and funding opportunities for scientific research institutions in BiH.
DARIAH-BiH State Coordinator Prof. Dr. Lana Šehović from the University of Sarajevo - Academy of Music also welcomed the attendees and presented the role and activities of the DARIAH-BiH consortium, as well as the opportunities for joining.
The two-day program continued with the exhibition of the Historical Archives of Sarajevo entitled “Franjo Maćejovski, composer, conductor, pedagogue and humanitarian”, and presentations on the following topics:
• “Organization of digital collections of libraries, archives and museums using the example of the OMEKA platform” (University of Sarajevo, Library),
• “Bosnia and Herzegovina National Corpus” (University of Sarajevo - Institute of Language),
• “Open Access at the University of Sarajevo” (University of Sarajevo - Faculty of Political Sciences, Library),
• “Monograph of the Ottoman Archives of the Oriental Institute of the University of Sarajevo” (University of Sarajevo - Oriental Institute),
• “Digitization in the NUBBiH: Analysis of Approaches and Challenges of Preservation of Cultural Heritage” (National and University Library of BiH).
The two-day program of the event also included the promotion of the book “František Matejovsky: Czech Musician in Bosnia and Herzegovina” by Prof. Dr. Lana Šehović and Prof. Dr. Fatima Hadžić from the University of Sarajevo Music Academy.
