Annual Meeting of the University of Sarajevo Confucius Institute Council

Second Implementation Agreement between the University of Sarajevo and the Northwestern Pedagogical University (NWNU) on the development of the Confucius Institute at the University of Sarajevo signed

The University of Sarajevo Confucius Institute is a unique project of international university co-operation and the contribution of the Chinese and Bosnian academic communities in building good relations between the two countries. The past performance and results of the University of Sarajevo Confucius Institute and intensification of cooperation were the topics of the meeting between the delegation of the Northwestern Pedagogical University from Gansu Province (PR China) and the University of Sarajevo.

On 23 December 2019, the annual meeting of the University of Sarajevo Confucius Institute Council was held at the University of Sarajevo, attended by representatives of the Northwestern Pedagogical University: Prof. Dr. Liu Zhongkui, President, Prof. Dr. Tian Shu, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, Mr. Quan Xiaohui, Senior Advisor, and Mrs. Sun Mei, Deputy Director, International Cooperation and Exchange; University of Sarajevo representatives: Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, Rector, Prof. Dr. Aleksandra Nikolić, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Aida Hodžić, Vice-Rector for Teaching and Student Affairs, Dr. Jasna Bošnjović, International Cooperation Head; and University of Sarajevo Confucius Institute directors: Messrs. La Weixin and Miroslav Živanović.
The reason behind the visit is the University of Sarajevo Confucius Institute, which was founded and being developed as a joint project of international cooperation between those two universities. At the annual meeting, the past UNSA Confucius Institute report on activities, work and achieved results in 2019 was discussed, as well as the guidelines for the future Institute’s activities. The common conclusion of the delegations is that the University of Sarajevo Confucius Institute is already and will continue to be a significant factor in building strong and friendly relations between the two countries.
The meeting was also an opportunity to sign the Second Implementation Agreement between the University of Sarajevo and the Northwestern Pedagogical University (NWNU) on the development of the UNSA Confucius Institute. The Agreement signed by the President of the Northwestern Pedagogical University Prof. Dr. Liu Zhongkui and University of Sarajevo Rector Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj aims at achieving the efficiency and sustainable development of the University of Sarajevo Confucius Institute, and keeping in regard the Agreement between the University of Sarajevo and the Confucius Institute Main Headquarters (Hanban) on the Confucius Institute establishment, signed in 2014.
The Confucius Institute, located in the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies, University of Sarajevo Campus, was established in cooperation with the Northwestern Pedagogical University of China to strengthen cultural and educational cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the People's Republic of China and to promote Chinese culture and language. The inauguration of the Confucius Institute at the University of Sarajevo was held on 2 April 2015.
