EUPeace at the University of Sarajevo
The University of Sarajevo is a partner in EUPeace (European University for Peace, Justice, and Inclusive Societies) – a European university alliance bringing together institutions across Europe with the aim of building societies based on peace, justice, and inclusion. Through this initiative, UNSA actively contributes to the development of international cooperation, mobility, and innovative academic activities, continuing its long-standing tradition of inter-university collaboration for fostering dialogue and promoting peace. The alliance is funded by the European Union and connects universities, students, researchers, and communities in developing joint educational programmes, research, and societal engagement.
The alliance focuses on the following themes:
- peace and security
- justice and social responsibility
- inclusion and diversity

The role of the University of Sarajevo
As a partner in the EUPeace alliance, the University of Sarajevo participates in a wide range of activities that contribute to internationalisation and the enhancement of education quality.
UNSA actively contributes through:
- organisation and participation in student and staff mobility
- development of joint academic and research initiatives
- strengthening cooperation with partner universities
- promotion of international activities and project visibility
Activities are implemented through eight Work Packages:
- WP1 – Project management, coordination, quality monitoring and governance: Ensures efficient project management, coordination among partners, and quality assurance.
- WP2 – Transforming Curricula: Develops and improves study programmes through modern, interdisciplinary, and internationally aligned curricula.
- WP3 – Internationalisation of Teacher Education: Enhances teacher education through international cooperation, knowledge exchange, and innovative teaching approaches.
- WP4 – Facilitating Mobility: Expands and improves mobility opportunities for students, doctoral candidates, and staff through flexible exchange formats.
- WP5 – Campus and Student Life: Strengthens the student experience through inclusive activities, joint events, and the development of a European campus environment.
- WP6 – Research Hubs and Doctoral Studies: Connects researchers and doctoral candidates through thematic hubs and supports doctoral education and collaboration.
- WP7 – Societal Dialogue: Encourages engagement between universities and society through public discussions, partnerships, and initiatives related to peace and inclusion.
- WP8 – Impact and Dissemination: Promotes project results, increases visibility, and ensures long-term impact and sustainability.

Opportunities for students and staff
EUPeace offers numerous opportunities for students and staff of the University of Sarajevo, aiming to strengthen internationalisation, mobility, and academic cooperation.
Students can participate in various types of mobility at partner universities, including semester exchanges, short-term programmes such as summer schools and blended intensive programmes (BIPs), as well as international courses and research activities. These opportunities support the development of academic, language, and intercultural competences while engaging with socially relevant topics.
Academic and administrative staff can take part in teaching and training mobilities, staff weeks, and Work Package activities. EUPeace also provides opportunities for developing joint research projects and preparing EU project proposals, further strengthening international collaboration and exchange of good practices.

The EUPeace alliance connects more than 200,000 students across Europe through a network of nine universities and over 200 faculties and institutes. With more than 1,870 study programmes across all three study cycles, it offers extensive opportunities for learning and development. Its research capacity is equally strong, bringing together over 15,300 researchers and more than 850 research groups contributing to innovation, knowledge, and societal impact at the European level.
