The University of Sarajevo Graduation and Diplomas Awarding Ceremony was held at the Zetra Olympic Hall “Juan Antonio Samaranch” in Sarajevo on 7 December 2019. Ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, University of Sarajevo Rector, University of Sarajevo Vice Rectors and Faculty/Academy Deans who promoted 5161 University of Sarajevo BA and MA graduates.

University of Sarajevo Rector, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj said that such a ceremony represented the most significant event for any university, and especially for the University of Sarajevo, which had celebrated its 70th anniversary on 2 December. He stated that in the past seven decades, the University of Sarajevo has promoted over 180,000 students and over 3,700 PhDs from 43 scientific fields. “The University of Sarajevo will continue to strive for excellence. Our orientation is, and must be, further integration into global academic trends; because it is the only way we can achieve our core mission - the prosperity and progress of our society as a whole.”

In addressing the graduates on the day when their success and the results of their educational endeavors and achievements are celebrated, and in the moment when they officially become academic title holders, Rector Škrijelj congratulated on behalf of the academic community and in his own behalf: “At the center of today's ceremony are you!” Rector Škrijelj also said that ceremony was a great occasion to commend the graduates on behalf of the University of Sarajevo’s academic community, as well as the opportunity for everyone to recognize their sacrifice, overcoming obstacles, acquired knowledge and intellect.

The University of Sarajevo BA and MA graduates were also congratulated by Mr. Edin Forto, Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton, emphasizing that everyone should be proud of the knowledge and diplomas they acquired at the University of Sarajevo, the best university in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and urged that they use their knowledge to the welfare of the state no matter where they lived and worked. He also said: “If we fight together, through your activism, no matter what profession you are from, for a better quality of life, for better public services, if we fight together that there is no more buying diplomas, buying jobs, we will quickly to get closer to the most developed countries in the European Union.”
 

Diplomas were awarded at the ceremony to all first, second and integrated first and second study cycles graduates at the Zetra “Juan Antonio Samaranch” Olympic Hall. 192 students received special University of Sarajevo awards at the ceremony: the University of Sarajevo Golden Badge, the University of Sarajevo Silver Badge and the University of Sarajevo Charter. 37 first study cycle graduates were awarded the Golden Badge, the highest University of Sarajevo award, the Silver Badge was awarded to 81 graduates, and the University of Sarajevo Charter was awarded to 5 graduates. Among the second cycle of study students, 16 were awarded the Gold Badge, 35 Silver Badge and 3 University of Sarajevo Charter.
3 I and II cycles integrated study I and II cycles students were awarded the Gold Badge and 12 the Silver Badge.

Rector Škrijelj presented University of Sarajevo recognitions and financial awards to the best first study cycle students. The most successful first cycle students in 2018/2019, all with an average grade of 10.00 are Amna Muhamedović, Faculty of Law, Ajdin Palavrić and Damir Medunjanin, Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.

On behalf of the of the special award recipients, Amna Muhamedović addressed the attendees and said: “This day is no end, it is a wonderful overture for all future days, which will play the most beautiful melody for all of us who dare to dance with it. Today, having taken on the vocation we have been acquiring for a long time, as young, competent, ambitious people, we have also taken great obligations on ourselves towards society. I, at this moment, urge all my colleagues to approach their execution with utmost care, because however small and small we may seem at this moment in relation to what surrounds us, we must know that the rocks are indeed breaking down.”"

The current and former University of Sarajevo students are its best ambassadors. Harun Hindija and Admir Greljo, University of Sarajevo Gold Badge recipients, have sent video messages on the occasion of the 70th anniversary.
 

 

The University of Sarajevo, by its capacity, importance, tradition and number of enrolled students and graduates, remains the leading educational institution in our country. In order to at least partially evoke entire University’s potential, a film about the University was directed by Nermin Hamzagić and produced by the Academy of Performing Arts. The University of Sarajevo Music Academy choir and the Music Academy octet: Tamara Arsovski, Jelena Vidović, Alma Dizdar, Ilma Hodović, Aida Deljkić, Selma Vlajčić, Belma Alić and Selma Hrenovica participated in the artistic part of the program.

The ceremony was organized with the support of media partners: TV Sarajevo, Antena Sarajevo, Dnevni Avaz and Oslobođenje.
