25 September Marked – World Pharmacists' Day

Obilježen 25. septembar – Svjetski dan farmaceuta

On the occasion of marking 25 September – World Pharmacists' Day, the Health Council of the Municipality of Centar, in cooperation with the University of Sarajevo – Faculty of Pharmacy, implemented educational lectures dedicated to one of the most important topics in contemporary pharmacy and public health – the rational use of antibiotics and antimicrobial resistance.

As part of the activities, two lectures were held:

🔹 "Antibiotics – Medicine, Environment, and the Growing Threat of Resistance", Prof. Dr. Selma Špirtović-Halilović

🔹 "From Miracle Drug to Global Problem: The Story of Antibiotics and Resistance", Dr. Sci. Naida Omerović Ćorović.

The lectures were attended by students of the Jezero Secondary Medical School, Bjelave Secondary Medical School, Secondary Dental Technician School, and EMC School; users of the Centar Municipality Center for Healthy Aging; as well as representatives of the academic and local community.

The special significance of these activities is reflected in connecting education, the profession, and the local community, as well as in raising awareness about the proper use of antibiotics and the responsibility of each individual in preserving their effectiveness.

Future healthcare professionals had the opportunity to expand their knowledge on the responsible use of antimicrobial therapy, while the older population was informed about the importance of proper antibiotic use and the active role of patients in preserving their own health.

We thank all participants for their contribution to marking 25 September – World Pharmacists' Day and for promoting the importance of the pharmacy profession in protecting public health.

Antibiotics save lives – let us preserve their effectiveness through responsible use.
