As a part of the POLICY ANSWERS - ANSWERS THROUGH POLITICS - Support for the creation of research and innovation policies, implementation and support in the Western Balkans project, in which the University of Sarajevo participates as a partner, a workshop started today in cooperation with the Council for Regional Cooperation (RCC) in Sarajevo under with the title Making the most of existing and underused Research Infrastructures in the Western Balkans.

 

In the first part of the workshop, a panel was organized dedicated to research infrastructures in the countries of the Western Balkans, digital connectivity, and the cooperation of regional infrastructures and connections with the economy.

 

Achievements and plans of the University of Sarajevo in terms of investment in research infrastructure and activities to ensure the sustainability and openness of the infrastructure were presented by Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović, Vice-Rector for University Finance. On this occasion, the university project University of Sarajevo High-Performance Computing (HPC) System was presented, with a focus on investments in research infrastructure at the University of Sarajevo, and further steps to improve and connect the university infrastructure into a network of highly sophisticated research equipment and researchers.

 

The panel entitled Promoting Research Infrastructures for Societal Challenges: Progress in the Development of Research Infrastructures in the Western Balkans gathered panelists who gave their views on the possibilities of regional cooperation, and presented the latest plans and activities related to the development of research infrastructures in the region. Panel participants included: Vesna Bengin, scientific advisor - BioSense Institute from Novi Sad, Nenad Čelarević, regional coordinator - Helvetas, Serbia, member of the Cabinet of Ministers - Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation of Serbia, Jasmin Ademović, chairman of the city council of the city of Sarajevo and Dejan Mirakovski, rector - Goce Delcev University in Štip, North Macedonia.
