Erasmus+

This is a program of the European Union consisting of different projects for education, training, youth and sport and, as such, offers more opportunities and a wide range of opportunities for students, teaching and non-teaching staff to study or do internships abroad, give lectures, develop professionally as and implement projects for capacity building and creation of cooperation networks between higher education institutions of the member states of the European Union and other countries of the world.

Participation of University of Sarajevo in Erasmus+ projects

Bosnia and Herzegovina (therefore, all higher education institutions of our country, including the University of Sarajevo) have been participating in the Erasmus+ program since 2014 in the status of "partner country" or "third countries not associated with the program". The University of Sarajevo appears as one "body" in this program (regardless of whether the project application is submitted by a member/sub-organizational unit of our university), and unique codes are used:

ECHE Charter

Following the University of Sarajevo's successful application for the new Erasmus+ program period, the European Commission granted the University of Sarajevo the Erasmus Charter in Higher Education 2021-2027 (ECHE). This charter serves universities as a general qualitative framework for European and international cooperation activities that these institutions can carry out as part of the Erasmus+ program. The award of the ECHE is a prerequisite for participation in the new Erasmus+ program, as well as in the three Key Activities it includes (Mobility of individuals for learning, Cooperation for innovation and exchange of good practices, Support for policy reforms).

EU Peace

The University of Sarajevo became part of the European university initiative called EUPeace (European University for Peace, Justice, and Inclusive Societies). The EUPeace alliance/network focuses on increasing the effects of internationalization under the prefix of nurturing a peaceful, just and inclusive European society at different levels. In this way, our university continues the long-standing tradition of inter-university cooperation to develop a culture of dialogue and promote peace. The EUPeace Alliance consists of nine European universities.

International mobility to the University of Sarajevo

The University of Sarajevo has participated in Erasmus World since 2007 as a full member of Erasmus Mundus Action 2 External Window, enabling outgoing and incoming mobility of students and university staff with international partners across Europe. Since 2014, our university has participated in Erasmus+ as a "partner country" or "third country not associated with the programme" institution and continues to contribute to the university's internationalisation strategy and collaboration with higher education institutions across Europe.

You are always welcome to join our university through the Erasmus+ program and visit us as exchange students, researchers, teaching staff or non-teaching staff. You need to check with your home Erasmus+ office (or International Relations Office) to see whether our institutions have signed and budget-approved the KA171 inter-institutional agreement.

  • Please note that mobility is only allowed through KA171 action. We can not participate in KA131.

Blended Intensive Programme - BIP (new)

The Erasmus+ program enabled the partial participation of "partner countries" (third countries not associated to the programme) in joint intensive programs (BIP), but only as an institution that can only send its students and staff to events within the project whose coordinator is the institution from "programme countries".

  • More information about this option is provided in the Erasmus+ Programme guide.
