Minister for Science, Higher Education and Youth of Sarajevo Canton Prof. Dr. Adna Mesihović visited the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo.

This Faculty offers a wide range of study programs, including philosophy, sociology, psychology, history, archaeology, linguistics, library science and information science, as well as many others. These programs allow students to acquire fundamental knowledge and develop critical thinking, analytical skills and communication skills.

Various topics were discussed at the meeting, some of the problems faced by the Faculty of Philosophy were identified, and one of them was the lack of clear criteria for the advancement of professors and researchers. Currently, there is no clear methodology that would be applied when evaluating scientific and academic achievements. The infrastructural needs of the Faculty of Philosophy were also discussed.

Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Prof. Dr. Kenan Šljivo expressed his gratitude to Minister Mesihović because she decided to intensify cooperation with the faculties of the University of Sarajevo, including the Faculty of Philosophy.

“The Faculty of Philosophy plays an important role in Sarajevo Canton and beyond. Its students and professors contribute to the social, cultural and intellectual development of the community. In addition, the Faculty of Philosophy is also a place where the cultural heritage and identity of the Sarajevo Canton is nurtured and preserved. Through the study of history, language, literature and art, the faculty contributes to the preservation and promotion of the rich cultural heritage of this area. There is no doubt that the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Youth of the Sarajevo Canton will intensify cooperation with the Faculty of Philosophy, and work on finding ways to solve the difficulties that were presented to us during this visit with joint efforts,” said Minister Mesihović.

She proposed to the representatives of the faculty to submit to the services of the Ministry a proposal for scientific journals in which works from the field of humanities can be published. This proposal aims to have scientific works from the humanities indexed in the relevant databases.

The Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Youth of Bosnia and Herzegovina will, as before, strive to support study programs and faculties aimed at improving the standards of higher education in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as achieving academic and scientific excellence. Therefore, the intensification of cooperation with the Faculty of Philosophy and other faculties within UNSA will remain one of the important work priorities.
