A gala concert closed the 14th “May Music Festival”

Svečanim Gala koncertom zatvoreno 14. izdanje festivala “Majske muzičke svečanosti”

After a month of very rich music program, the gala concert realized within the promotion of the University of Sarajevo Doctor of Sciences promotion ended the 14th “May Music Festival.” This event was held on 24 June 2021. at the National Theater in Sarajevo, and on that occasion, students and professors of the UNSA Music Academy performed.

The concert opened with the performance of the second movement "Sarajevo", from the work "Ciudades" by Guillermo Lag (b. 1960), interpreted by the Saxophone Quartet of the UNSA Music Academy consisting of Ivona Šiško (soprano saxophone), Rijad Šarić (alto saxophone), Mirza Sijerčić saxophone), and Zoja Vuković (baritone saxophone).

The repertoire also includes works by local authors, including solo songs "In the Storm" by Milan Prebanda (1907-1979) and "Turn Around the Jul Garden" by Cvjetko Richtman (1902-1989), an ethnomusicologist and one of the founders of the Music Academy of the University of Sarajevo. performed by soprano Adema Pljevljak-Krehić with piano accompaniment by pianist Maja Ačkar Zlatarević.

The first movement of Andante con motto from the Trio for violin, cello and piano op. 1, no. 1, the debut work of the French composer César Franck (1822-1890), was played by violinist Yeon Ju Jeong, cellist Isak Haračić, and pianist Dragan Opančić.

The program also included two solo songs by German composer Richard Strauss (1864-1949), “Morgen!” Op. 27, no. 4 and “Allerseelen” op. 10, no. 8 which could be heard in the interpretation of soprano Vedrana Šimić with piano accompaniment by Milan Lucić.

Pianist Višnja Bakalar presented herself with the performance of Maurice Ravel's "Sonatina" (1875-1937), while the first movement Allegro maestoso ma appassionato from the virtuoso Sonata Op. 8 Hungarian composer Zoltán Kodály (1882-1967) was played by cellist Belma Alić. The concert was rounded off with an interpretation of the fourth movement of Vivaca from the Sonata Op. 82, no. 6 in A major by Sergei Prokofiev (1891-1953) interpreted by Nadir Hošić.

According to epidemiological measures and orders of the competent institutions, the number of visitors was limited. The interested audience, who did not attend this event due to the mentioned restrictions, will be able to watch the recording of the concert on the official YouTube channel of the MAS Concert Season.
