ALICE Masterclass on Particle Physics Held at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics for the First Time

ALICE Masterclass na Prirodno-matematičkom fakultetu

International ALICE Masterclass on Particle Physics was, for the first time, held in Sarajevo on 16. 04. 2019. at University of Sarajevo, Faculty of Science, Department of Physics. International Masterclasses provide a unique opportunity for High school students to be scientists for a day.

The programme started in the morning with lecture from dr. Kerim Suruliz, from University of Sussex, about theoretical concepts in Particle Physics. This introductory lecture was followed by a presentation of ALICE experiment by dr. Yiota Foka and dr. Despina Hatzifotiadou from CERN. ALICE is an acronym for "A Large Ion Collider Experiment".

After the lunch break, students had an opporunity to use the same software used in CERN for analysing data from Large Hadron Collider. At the end, students participated in an international video conference, together with three other institutes and moderators from CERN.

Event was organized by Department of physics at Faculty of Science with help of physics students as volunteers. We hope that it will broaden high-school students horizons, and maybe inspire them to become a scientist one day.
