Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj elected Rector of the University of Sarajevo for the 2020-2024 term
The UNSA Senate Election Session, chaired by a Senator, Prof. Dr. Muhamed Dželilović, Faculty of Philosophy Dean, was held on 1 July 2020.
In accordance with the Sarajevo Canton Higher Education Law and the University of Sarajevo Statute, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, who received the largest number of Senator votes was elected University of Sarajevo Rector for the 2020-2024 term.
After the Commission for the implementation of the procedure for the election of the UNSA Rector report for the 2020-2024 period was adopted and Procedure for conducting the voting for the election of the University of Sarajevo Rector, and the appointed Commission for conducting the voting procedure for the election of the University of Sarajevo Rector, oral presentations of candidates' work program of for Rector took place.
Candidates for the position of Rector were:
- Prof. Dr. Elvir Čizmić, full professor at the Faculty of Economics, University of Sarajevo
- Prof. Dr. Šaćir Filandra, full professor, Faculty of Political Science, University of Sarajevo
- Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, full professor at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, University of Sarajevo
40 Senators voted for the election of the rector of the University of Sarajevo. After the first round of voting, no candidate received the required majority of votes, and the voting procedure was repeated. In the repeated voting, the election was made between Prof. Dr. Šaćir Filandra and Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj who received an equal number of votes in this round of voting. The third round of voting followed, in which Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj received 21 votes, and Prof. Dr. Šaćir Filandra 19 votes.
The second term of the elected University of Sarajevo Rector, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj starts on 1 October 2020.
