Godišnja konferencija za medije: Univerzitet u Sarajevu godinu završava uspješno!

The University of Sarajevo ends the ceremonial University of Sarajevo December Days and 2022 with the annual press conference and the ceremonial awarding of awards for scientific/artistic work for 2021. The conference was held on Wednesday, 28 December 2022, at the University of Sarajevo Rectorate. The 73rd Anniversary of the University of Sarajevo and the Ceremonial December University Days were marked by the promotions of 4,102 BA and MA graduates, 47 Doctors of Science, 10 professors emeriti, the awarding of an honorary doctorate of the University of Sarajevo (gradus doctoris honoris causa) to Dr. Edmond Offermann, Doctor Of Physical Sciences in the field of Experimental Nuclear Physics, and with the promotion of the ambassador of the University - Ismail Abu al-Bandora.

At the press conference, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, University of Sarajevo Rector, in the presence of the University Vice Rectors, presented the results of the work of the University of Sarajevo achieved in 2022, and informed about the activities of the University management planned with the aim of continuous development of the University of Sarajevo.

Rector Škrijelj highlighted the stability of the University of Sarajevo in all aspects, primarily financial, and the strengthening of forms of cooperation within the University, as well as with other universities in the region and the world in all areas (science, education, international cooperation, quality).

“We are strengthening our infrastructure. There is still a lot to do. We brought some of the processes to an end this year. Thus, the preparatory work has been completed and the contract for the construction of the university library, whose construction should begin at the beginning of the next calendar year, will be signed,” emphasized rector of Škrijelj at the annual press conference.

Another important infrastructure component is the building of the Academy of Performing Arts. As Rector Škrijelj stated, the founder - Canton of Sarajevo and the Institute for Construction of KS involved the University in following up on that building in the final phase of the works.

He also emphasized the importance of creating a master plan for the University Campus, which he characterized as an important component of the University's future development. This means expanding the capacity of UNSA's infrastructure, and the modern Campus will make a great contribution to Sarajevo being, in the true sense of the word, a university city, as well as creating conditions for an increase in the number of students from abroad.

“What I am saying about the Campus is the future of the University. With the construction of the Library, which will start soon, the construction of the Campus will begin, and will continue intensively after the completion and adoption of the master plan, which should be an integral part of the spatial planning documentation of the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo and the City of Sarajevo,” stressed Rector Škrijelj.

The infrastructure that was established in the previous period at the University of Sarajevo with the aim of supporting the scientific-research function of the University gives better and better results, and the University of Sarajevo records a constant increase in participation in domestic and international funds intended for scientific-research work.

The increase in scientific production at the University of Sarajevo is also evident in 2022 and is reflected, among other things, in the significantly increased number of awards for the results of scientific and artistic work of academic and research staff that were awarded this year in accordance with the Rulebook on Awards.

The University of Sarajevo is continuously making progress in terms of the number of scientific research projects. 3 new Horizon Europe projects were approved (in the total amount of approx. 450,000.00 BAM), making the University of Sarajevo the leading Bosnian-Herzegovinian institution in 2022 in terms of the number of projects in the European program for research and innovation - Horizon Europe, with a total of 10 projects. Five new projects have been approved within the Erasmus+ program for UNSA members. As far as domestic funds are concerned, the University of Sarajevo also remains their biggest beneficiary, with 305 new projects approved through the co-financing schemes of the Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH, the Federal Ministry of Education and Science, and mostly through the co-financing of the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and the youth of Sarajevo Canton.

In accordance with European trends, where great attention is paid to the internationalization of universities through academic exchanges, the University of Sarajevo is growing in all parameters of international cooperation, from bilateral agreements, international conferences to the mobility of teachers, associates and students.

“Reforms and goals achieved in the past period are the results of the joint work and effort of all members of the University, teaching, professional, administrative and technical staff, and a joint commitment to building a modern integrated University that will improve our excellence, generate a healthy academic atmosphere and nurture a permanent focus to achieving positive results and achieving our strategic goals,” Rector Škrijelj emphasized, and added that the orientation of the University of Sarajevo is and must be further integrational into the world's academic streams, because that's the only way we can achieve our basic mission - the prosperity and progress of society as a whole.

In a meeting with journalists, Rector Škrijelj pointed out that the University of Sarajevo is ending the year successfully!
