Scientific-research papers in publications referring to Web of Science
During 2016, 232 articles in the authorship and co-authorship of professors and associates of the University of Sarajevo were indexed in the Science Citation Index Expanded, Social Sciences Citation Index, Arts & Humanities Citation Index independently or in cooperation with partner institutions, which is an increase of 38.9% compared to 2015. An exceptionally large shift is visible in relation to 2014, by 77%.
The analyzed data for the area of research indicate that the greatest number of papers are indexed in medical, physical and mathematical sciences, as well as last year. This year the works were recorded in the fields of pathology (14), mathematics (11), oncology (11), biochemistry and molecular biology 10, and optics (9).
Out of the total number of articles, 11% (27 out of 232) are from the field of social sciences and humanities (sports, history, management, education, religion, political science), which is a noticeable shift compared to 2014 when only 3 registered, 8% (5 out of 131) papers in the field of humanistic and social sciences (literary-historical sciences and criminology with penology).
As far as cooperation is concerned, the largest number of co-authored papers are from universities in the Western Balkan region, the University of Zagreb (21 articles), the University of Belgrade (16 articles), the University of Ljubljana (9 articles), the University of Split (8 articles ), University of Novi Sad (5 articles). Outside of this region, the cooperation with the Max Born Institute in Berlin (9 articles) and Karlov University in Prague (8 articles) are predominant. Within Bosnia and Herzegovina, the most intensive cooperation in 2016 was with the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina (11 articles). The highest level of cooperation was with the institutions in Western European countries, and the presence of cooperation on all continents was recorded. In Europe (in addition to the countries of the Western Balkans), the most intense co-operation is registered in Germany (28 articles), Italy (17 articles), Slovenia (18 articles), Romania (15 articles), Spain (15 articles), Switzerland (15 articles) and England and Sweden (12 articles).
The above-mentioned papers were mostly published as articles in magazines (173 or 74,57%), and conference abstracts (44 or 19%), reviews (8 or 3.44%), letters and editorial contentl (total 2 or 0.86%).
Articles of professors and associates of the University of Sarajevo in the Web of Science
In the period 1970-2015, 3477 articles were indexed in all three indexes of the Core Citation Index Expanded, Social Sciences Citation Index, Arts & Humanities Citation Index. This number can be considered as the smallest possible number of published articles because in the field of address in WoS there were cases where authors did not specify a university, but only the name of the faculty and address.
When it comes to citing articles of teachers and associates of the University of Sarajevo, these articles are cited 18,537 times (or 16,024 times without self-censorship). These 16,024 citations appear in 13,564 articles.
Scientific-research papers in the publications referred to by Scopus
During 2016, SCOPUS database of scientific literature indexed 277 articles in the authorship and co-authorship of teachers and associates of the University of Sarajevo alone or in cooperation with partner institutions.
The analyzed data for the field of research indicate that the greatest number of papers are indexed in the field of biomedical and technical sciences: medicine (88 articles or 31.9%), computer science (57 articles or 20.6%), engineering (45 articles or 16.2 (28 articles or 10.1%), physics and astronomy with 24 articles (8.7%), social science with 23 articles (8.3%) and biochemistry, genetics and molecular biology with 21 article (7.6%).
When it comes to cooperation patterns, the picture is similar to the pattern of cooperation visible through Web of Science.
The largest number of co-authored papers in the region of the Western Balkans relates to the University of Zagreb (17), the University of Belgrade (14), the University of Split (9), the University of Ljubljana (6) and the University of Novi Sad (5). Within Bosnia and Herzegovina, here, as in the case of WoS, the greatest cooperation with the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina is here.
If data are extracted by country, coincidence with cooperation patterns isolated in WoS is noticed, and in this case, the largest number of co-authorship with colleagues from Croatia (45 articles), Serbia (33 articles), Germany (32), USA (26 articles), Romania (16 articles), and the United Kingdom (16 articles).
The above-mentioned papers were mostly published (167 or 60.3%) as articles in magazines, then works at conferences (73 or 26.4%), and other forms of publication (reviews, letters and editorial material, etc.)
