Japanese Language Studies Introduction at the University of Sarajevo

Uvođenje studija japanskog jezika na Univerzitetu u Sarajevu

H.E. Hideyuki SAKAMOTO, Ambassador of Japan to BiH  visited the University of Sarajevo on Tuesday, 18 September 2018, where he met with Rector Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj.
During the first visit of His Excellency to the University in Sarajevo, a project was developed for the Japanese Language Study Program development at the UNSA Faculty of Philosophy, which will be implemented  with the support of the Government of Japan and Sophia University.
It was emphasized that this was just the beginning of cooperation. “We need young people who will connect the two nations in many other areas such as tourism, economics and culture. I consider this project one of the kind of platforms that can deepen cooperation” said His Excellency  Ambassador SAKAMOTO.
Namely, within the co-operation between the Faculty of Philosophy and the Japanese Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Japanese language course has been organized for several years, and teaching conducted by native Japanese speakers.
The hope was exposed that a Japanese language studies would be launched next academic year in the long run as a department for Japanese language to study  Japanese civilization and culture.
While pointing out that the introduction of Japanese language studies at the University of Sarajevo was invaluable, Rector Škrijelj assessed the extremely successful cooperation between the University of Sarajevo and the Embassy of Japan in BiH and expressed gratitude to the Government of Japan for supporting various programs for Bosnia and Herzegovina , Sarajevo, University of Sarajevo and BH citizens.
The Ambassador SAKAMOTO was accompanied by Akihito TERUUCHI, Advisor / Deputy Head of Mission, Natsuko YUMOTO, Second Secretary, Dr. Taro KOMATSU, Professor at Sophia University, Embassy, and Nozomi MIYANOYA, a Japanese lecturer at the University of Sarajevo. The meeting was also attended by Prof. Dr. Aida Hodžić, Vice-Rector for Teaching and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Aleksandra Nikolić, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Muhamed Dželilović, Faculty of Philosophy Dean and Doc. Dr. Selma Đuliman, Vice-Dean for Research, International Academic Collaboration and Publishing.
