The conference “Integrating Bosnia and Herzegovina into the European Union: Overcoming Misperceptions” held at the UNSA Faculty of Political Sciences
At the beginning of December (04/12/2023), a one-day scientific conference “Integrating Bosnia and Herzegovina into the European Union: Overcoming Misperceptions” was held at the Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Sarajevo, in cooperation with the organization Humanity in Action of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and with the support of the Open Society BiH Fund.
The conference started with the promotion of the book “Integrating Western Balkans into the European Union: Overcoming Mutual Misperceptions”, which was recently published by the prestigious publishing house Palgrave Macmillan. The book was discussed by its editor, Prof. Dr. Milica Uvalić (Robert Schuman Centre, European University Institute, Florence) and Prof. Dr. Sead Turčalo (FPN/UNSA), as well as some of the authors: Prof. Dr. Jovan Teokarević, Ph.D. Renzo Daviddi, Prof. Dr. Nedžma Džananović and Margareta Rončević, MA.
On the second panel entitled “Intergating Western Balkans into the EU: Bosnian Perspective”, researchers from the Faculty of Political Sciences UNSA presented their current research and insights: Prof. Dr. Sarina Bakić, Prof. Dr. Ehlimana Spahić, assistant professor Ph.D. Samir Forić, Jasmin Hasanović, and doctoral candidates Berina Beširović and Osman Sušić.
The third panel entitled “(All) the ways of supporting the BiH's Integration into the EU” presented some of the projects that, within governmental, non-governmental and higher education institutions, monitor, support, analyze and improve the EU integration process in specific ways . The panel was attended by: assistant director of DEI BiH for communications and training in the field of European integration, executive director of Humanity in Action BiH Zarja Marković, Edo Kanlić on behalf of the Sarajevo Open Center, and FPN alumni, analyst Denis Čarkadžić on behalf of U.G. “Why not”. A colleague from the International Burch University, Amer Kurtović, presented the “Unis4EU” project, while Prof. Dr. Nedžma Džananović spoke about the internationally accredited joint master's study of 10 universities in the field of political science and integration (PoSIG), in which FPN/UNSA has been participating since 2016.
The conference was attended by a significant number of experts and analysts dealing with this field, as well as activists, members of the academic community and students. Photo and video from the conference can be viewed below.
