University of Sarajevo Faculty of Islamic Sciences - MIDA project international partner institution

MIDA

In June 2018, the Executive Agency for Research and Innovation at the European Commission awarded financial support for the H2020 Marie Curie Innovative Training Network Project called Mediating Islam in the Digital Age (MIDA).
MIDA is a project of an international consortium of research institutes, universities and non-academic partners in six European countries. The project is co-ordinated by the French National Research Center Research Center (CNRS) in Paris. The consortium includes twelve beneficiaries and thirteen partner organizations /institutions, including the University of Sarajevo Faculty of Islamic Sciences.
The MIDA project is based on the assumption that digitization and technological innovation have a significant impact on Islam with diverse and ubiquitous effects, reminiscent of a former technical revolution, such as printing technology. The rapid changes that are already happening create a sense of losing control and instability among citizens, politicians, journalists, academics, but also among Muslims themselves. The proliferation of modern digital media and new technologies of communication, production and dissemination of information, encourages researchers and other social actors, both Muslims and non-Muslims, to try to understand and explain these developments.
MIDA deals with the multidimensional assessment of current developments with the help of three key issues: How digitalisation (1) shapes Islam (ie beliefs, practices, societies, political organizations, social institutions, and perspectives); (2) changing the relationship of Muslims with their past; (3) changing and reorganizing learning and research on Islam?
