The International Scientific Conference “Genocide against Bosniaks, Srebrenica 1995 - 2020: Causes, Scales and Consequences" will be held in the City Hall on Monday, 19 October. 76 eminent experts will take part whose works will be included in the Book of Proceedings from which future generations will learn.
On this occasion, Sarajevo Canton Prime Minister, Mario Nenadić spoke today with Conference’s Scientific Committee President, Academician Mirko Pejanović and the University of Sarajevo Rector, Rifat Škrijelj and UNSA Institute for Research against Crimes against Humanity and International Law and Institute for History Directors Rasim Muratović and Sedad Bešlija.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Justice and Administration Mersa Kustura, the Minister of Education, Science and Youth Anis Krivić and the representative of the Ministry of Finance Zejna Avdić.
According to Academician Pejanović, the guests informed the attendees about all the activities they have undertaken so far in preparation for this very important conference, and emphasized that all presentations will be combined into a collection of papers that will be published in Bosnian and English.
For the second time, the scientific community is organizing a conference on the topic of genocide in Srebrenica. Tuzla is planned to be the subsequent conference venue in two years, with a special workshop in Srebrenica, on the topic of demographic renewal of Srebrenica and its economic development.
“The goal of scientific and research efforts is to finally shed light on all aspects of the consequences of the genocide against Bosniaks in Srebrenica in all dimensions of human survival and living, especially in terms of the reconstruction of Srebrenica and multiethnic life in it” said Academician Pejanović.
The Prime Minister said that the Canton supported the scientific gathering and thematic conference and that he would give his contribution for this important project for the Sarajevo Canton and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“We are all aware of what happened in '95, but unfortunately the consequences extend to this day. There was a physical reconstruction in Srebrenica, but the huge is what about the spiritual renewal” said Prime Minister Nenadić.
Minister Krivić said that the most important thing is to keep the scientific approach to these topics, for which we have excellent experts, and that these initiatives should start from our canton.
“Sarajevo has survived the aggression, and its citizens have always sympathized with the people of Srebrenica, so every project that concerns them will have our support” said Minister Kustura.
Rector Škrijelj thanked Prime Minister Nenadić and Ministers, and on this occasion invited them to attend the conference in the City Hall in order to say together with the organizers that genocide never, anywhere and to anyone, because its consequences are terrible. It is the obligation of all of us to talk about it, Rector underlined.
