Book “Landscape Architecture: Challenges of New Paradigms in Holistic Planning and Landscaping” by Prof. Dr. Tatjana Ljujić-Mijatović and Sabine Biser, B.Sc. Ing. was presented in the University of Sarajevo’s Ceremonial Hall on Thursday, 3 October 2019.
In his address, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, University of Sarajevo Rector pointed out that the title of this book speaks about landscape design philosophy and its architecture, and that every new book title at our university is a reason for joy, especially when it comes to authors with a distinct erudition such as Professor Tatjana Ljujić-Mijatović.
“The importance of this profession in today's modern way of life is best illustrated by the fact that there are over 250 study programs in higher education in landscape architecture today in the world. That is why I think that this book will best bring contemporary trends in this field to our students and professional public and to offer certain solutions for our specific regional landscape specificities” said Rector Škrijelj, emphasizing that the authors, as a duo, have done a great job.
The book brings a new approach to space planning in an easy and understandable way, explain to the reader the importance of landscape architecture in everyday use, as stated by promoters Prof. Dr. Ševal Muminović, Prof. Dr. Senka Barudanović and Prof. Dr. Aleksandra Nikolić.
Prof. Dr. Ševal Muminović pointed out that this is the first book of its kind from this field in Bosnia and Herzegovina. “The book is particularly significant because it addresses landscape and urban ecology. These are new areas that are very current in the world. The special value of this book is the chapter Protection and Restoration of Landscape Architecture Monuments, where the authors propose methods for restoration and protection of landscape architecture monuments ” said Professor Muminović, adding that although the manuscript is intended primarily for students of different Faculties, who in their curricula they have subjects from or landscape architecture related fields, this literature will also come in handy for experts in the field of landscaping and design, architects, ecologists, biologists, agronomists, urban planners, builders, foresters, and ordinary people, lovers of nature and its conservation.
The book represents a new approach in spatial planning, according to Prof. Dr. Senka Barudanović. We are witnesses, said Professor Barudanović, that our space is changing daily, which most often ends up being the construction of new buildings while green areas are neglected, and in green areas, she added, there are also species that are not desirable in the environment of humans and very often cause allergies, such as ragweed, or we have less green space, which magnifies the effects of climate change we are just learning about. “This book offers a holistic approach to planning, integrated planning and the involvement of all participants, those who use the space in the process of deciding how it should look and meet the needs of all of them” said Professor Barudanović.
Prof. Dr. Aleksandra Nikolić spoke about the authors: her former professor Tatjana Ljujić-Mijatović, but also about her former student Sabina Biser, and about their collaboration. “Every book, every record of knowledge and experience shapes our future and contributes to a better one” said Professor Nikolić, adding that such books shape not only us, but future generations, not only in the region but also in the world.
Prof. Dr. Tatjana Ljujić-Mijatović points out that in the book she has sublimated her many years of work and since the design of space is the cultural heritage of a particular people and the basis of its identity, nature protection is important both locally and globally. She says that the book is intended primarily for students but for researchers, and that it has many scientific, professional texts that are accompanied by photographs, illustrations, charts. “A multidisciplinary approach is needed in space planning, and I believe that people in BH institutions should take care about it, because the health of people on the whole planet is threatened, even here” said Professor Ljujić-Mijatović. This is because, she added, all planning and designing without the coordination of architects, experts was allowed, and without that coordination there is no proper space planning. She insists that the word of experts and scholars should be listened to, and the book will help properly solving the problem.
The book is published by the Federal Ministry of Education and Science.
