The ceremonial opening of the Summer School “Comparative Public Health - Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina” was held at the UNSA Center for Interdisciplinary Studies on Monday, 22 July 2019.

The Summer School “Comparative Public Health - Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina” is the result of cooperation among the Northwestern University, University of Belgrade and University of Sarajevo which started in 2016 and has been run by the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies as one of its programs since 2019.

This program is the result of a project focused on the cooperation among the University of Sarajevo and leading regional higher education institutions and those from abroad in order to strengthen the strategically important activity “internationalization at home”, i.e. the implementation of an international project for the purpose of improving the quality of teaching, research and visibility of UNSA as a partner of the renowned world universities. The University of Sarajevo through the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies develops high-quality, international programs of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary nature which is a global trend in higher education.

Within the program, US students from Northwestern University stay in Sarajevo from 22 July to 19 August 2019. During this period, they will attend lectures with the participation of lecturers from the Faculties of Medicine, Health Sciences, the Faculty of Philosophy and Sarajevo Canton Institute for Fighting the Addiction. The program includes field activities and cultural excursions through which US students will learn about cultures, languages and societies in the region, local public health systems and other subjects.

The program is an integral part of the international study offer at the Northwestern University, which is ranked 18th in America by its high quality and is also highly positioned at international academic rankings – it is 25th at the “Shanghai List” in the world. Within the program, which lasts for a month in Belgrade and Sarajevo, US students will have the opportunity to become familiar with the public health systems and policies in the former SFRY countries, as well as with the peculiar challenges in this area.
