The University of Sarajevo Promoted 93 Doctors of Science
The PhD promotion ceremony at the University of Sarajevo was held in the National Theater Sarajevo on 20 December 2017 Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, University of Sarajevo Rector, Vice-Rectors and Faculty/Academy Deans promoted 93 PhD candidates in Doctors of Science.
In his welcome address, Rector Škrijelj emphasized that University of Sarajevo, as the oldest university in Bosnia and Herzegovina has the greatest potential for progress and reforming of our society as a whole. In its 68 years, the University of Sarajevo has promoted over 3000 Doctors of Sciences to date from fields belonging to humanistic, social, medical, natural, mathematical and biotechnical, technical sciences and arts groups.
Having congratulated to newly promoted Doctors of Sciences on previous achievements, which are also successes of the University of Sarajevo, Rector Škrijelj expressed the desire to apply new knowledge and skills to the general welfare of his community and humanity as a whole.
“Now that you have the academic freedom to independently formulate your own research, it must be kept in mind that this form of freedom carries a special responsibility. It is therefore necessary to incorporate morality and ethics into all the pores of action and research, because knowledge is what should always be in the service of human needs and as such it must not be there for itself or against human values” said Rector Škrijelj.
On behalf of the promoted Doctor of Sciences, Renata Bešta-Gajević addressed the attendees.
