The University of Sarajevo organizes a joint program on “Comparative Public Health” with one of the best world universities

Joint Program of the University of Sarajevo and the Northwestern University of the United States

The Summer School “Comparative Public Health - Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina” is the result of cooperation among the Northwestern University, the University of Belgrade and the University of Sarajevo, which started in 2016. Since 2019, it has been carried out as one of the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies’ programs. This program is the result of a project focused on the cooperation of the University of Sarajevo with the leading regional higher education institutions and those in the world in order to strengthen the strategically important “internationalization at home” activity, i.e. implementation of an international project in order to improve the quality of teaching, research and visibility of UNSA as a chosen partner of the revered universities in the world. Through the UNSA Center for Interdisciplinary Studies, high-quality international programs of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary character are developed, which is a global trend in higher education.

Within this program, US students from the Northwestern University are staying in Sarajevo from 22 July to 19 August 19 2019, where they will attend lectures at which lecturers from the Faculties of Medicine, Health Studies, Philosophy and from the Sarajevo Canton Institute for Addiction Preventing will speak. The program includes field activities and cultural excursions through which American students will learn about cultures, languages and societies in the region, local public health systems and other topics.

The program, a part of the Northwestern University Global Learning Abroad offer that is ranked 18th in the USA and highly positioned in international academic rankings – 25th at the Shanghai List. Within the program, which lasts a month in Belgrade and Sarajevo, American students have the opportunity to get acquainted with public health systems and policies in the former SFRY countries, as well as peculiar challenges in form this field.

On Monday, 22 July 2019, the Summer School opening will be opened at the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies, University of Sarajevo Campus, at 9:30.
