The Sarajevo Canton Government Supports the University of Sarajevo's Development

On Friday, 9 February 2018, a press conference was held at the University of Sarajevo where a project for hiring 150 assistants at the University of Sarajevo was presented, as well as other forms of capital investments of the Sarajevo Canton Government in the infrastructure and human resources of the largest university in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

On these important topics, current and realized projects, and the support provided by the Sarajevo Canton Government to the University of Sarajevo, UNSA Rector, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj.

Special attention was paid to the announced of employing 150 assistants at the University of Sarajevo. Namely, the University of Sarajevo, due to the expressed lack of a young academic staff, developed a project for the recruitment of 200 assistants - the best students of the University of Sarajevo that was sent to the Sarajevo Canton Government in early 2017 for consideration. At the session in January 2018, the Government adopted a proposal on financing the implementation of the Co-Financing Program for Employment of Assistants at the Faculties "150+".

“This is the largest employment of assistants at the University of Sarajevo in twelve years. In this way, 150 young people who have achieved excellent results during the studies will get a job at the University where they achieved excellent results and thus become part of its future intellectual youth” said Rector Škrijelj, expressing his gratitude to the Government of Sarajevo Canton and the Prime Minister, Mr. Elmedin Konaković.

It was pointed out that in this way, the most successful students of the II cycle of studies, the integrated I and II study cycles according to the Bologna system, as well as VII degrees according to the Pre-Bologna University of Sarajevo registered as the unemployed, will be employed as assistant at UNSA Faculties/Academies, or expert associates at the scientific Institutes.

Public institution “Sarajevo Canton Employment Service” announced a public invitation to employers to apply for participation in the “150+” program of co-funding the employment of assistants at Faculties. The call states that the planned funds for these purposes amount to 2,340,000.00 BAM and aims at employing 150 highly educated unemployed persons. The service will refund funds to the Faculties covered by the “150+” program monthly in 12 installments in the amount of BAM 1,300.00 per newly employed person for the part of payment of the salary and payment of statutory taxes and contributions.
The University of Sarajevo will apply for participation in the Program after organizational units submit to the University of Sarajevo the need for assistants/professional associates.

Besides the Rector, the conference was attended by the University of Sarajevo Vice-Rectors: Prof. Drs. Aida Hodžić, Student Affairs, Dženana Husremović, Research, Aleksandra Nikolić, International Cooperation, Željko Šain, Finances, Prof. Zijad Mehić, Arts, Culture and Sports, Maida Čohodar Husić, Quality, Mr. Mirza Ibrahimović, Student-Vice-Rector.
