The Institute for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology celebrated the 30th Anniversary on a Solemn Ceremony
On February 28, 2018, the University of Sarajevo Institute for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology organized a ceremony marking its 30th anniversary.
The ceremony was opened by Prof. Dr. Naris Pojskić, INGEB director stressing that the 30 years of the Institute may not be long, considering that some faculties, academies and institutes of the University of Sarajevo work longer than 60 and 70 years.
“But for an institute dealing with new technologies, this is certainly a significant period. Our Institute was founded just eight years after the world's first biotechnological solutions in drug and food production. It was result of a vision of people from Bosnia and Herzegovina who recognized the importance of biotechnology on the basis of genetic engineering” said director Pojskić, reminding attendees that the Institute has undergone various stages in the past period: from the formation, acquisition of the most up to date equipment selected and educated generation researches to the beginning of research, then partial infrastructure destruction during the war, selecting a new generation of researchers, reconstructing infrastructure, repairing the existing and acquiring new modern equipment and ultimately adopting new technologies.
In his congratulations, along with the desire for this festive event to stimulate further successes, UNSA Rector Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj emphasized that the competitive scientific environment is an excellent place for young and prospective students of the III cycle of studies from the relevant field with the possibility of continuous exchange of scientific information within the framework of the excellent international cooperation that the Institute for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology has as well as through practical laboratory realization of doctoral dissertations.
“At an international level, and on behalf of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, INGEB is an affiliate member of the International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology based in Trieste, Italy, which is why we are very proud of it” said Rector Škrijelj. He added “Today when we mark this significant jubilee I would like to point out that we are particularly pleased and impressed by what scientific institutes maintain the continuity of activities that are not so easy today, especially if we take into account the present moment in which our entire social community is. Scientific institutes make tremendous efforts to keep the scientific creativity of scientists in the institute, and the University of Sarajevo will support the work and scientific research of our institutes in the upcoming period.”
The ceremony was also an opportunity for the presentation of the Institute's work and the most significant activities, a screening of the film on the Institute activities and giving awards to individuals and institutions that gave an extraordinary and lasting contribution to the development and affirmation of this Institute.
