"Engineering Human Swallowing and Gait Function Engineering Techniques" Lecture by Prof. Dr. Ervin Sejdić

Predavanje prof. dr. Ervina Sejdića o temi „Inžinjerske tehnike za poboljšanje funkcija gutanja i hodanja kod ljudi“

Engineering Human Swallowing and Gait Function Engineering Techniques lecture by visiting professor Prof. Dr. Ervin Sejdić was held on Friday, 10 January 2019 in the UNSA Rectorate Hall.

The attendees were addressed by Doz. Dr. Tamer Bego, Vice-Dean for International Cooperation at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Sarajevo, and in presenting Dr. Sejdić emphasized that with his brilliant research and carefully performed experiments and groundbreaking published works he enthusiastically contributed to the advancement of scientific knowledge, which resulted in the co-authorship of over 130 publications. He also emphasized that the passion of Dr. Sejdić's drive for discovery and innovation drives his ongoing efforts to link advances in engineering to society's most pressing problems, and therefore his research interests include processing biomedical signals, gait analysis, difficulty swallowing, advanced medical information systems as well as rehabilitation engineering.

Dr. Ervin Sejdić is a distinguished teacher and researcher at the Swanson School of Engineering, University of Pittsburgh. He has received prestigious world awards and honors, including the Presidential Award for Young Scientists and Engineers from former President Barack Obama.

Within his lecture Dr. Sejdić talked about how advanced engineering methods can be used to monitor and predict certain problems in human functions. He stated that his Pittsburgh lab is unique in how they work, and that their work focuses on two human functions: swallowing and walking.

Prof. Dr. Ervin Sejdić is a visiting professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Sarajevo as part of the Diaspora for Development project - D4D, a project of the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of BiH (MHRR) and the Government of Switzerland, in partnership with UNDP BiH and IOM BiH.

Along with todays lecture on engineering techniques for improving the functions of swallowing and walking in humans, Dr. Sejdić also gave on 9 January a lecture at the Faculty of Pharmacy on the topic “Artificial Intelligence in Pharmacy.”
