Academician Kemal Hanjalić Elected into the Russian Academy of Sciences as a Foreign Member

Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina full member, academician Kemal Hanjalić was elected as a foreign member at the General Assembly of the Russian Academy of Sciences, on 14 November 2019.

Academician Kemal Hanjalić is University of Sarajevo and Delft Technical University professor emeritus. He was born in Sarajevo in 1939, where he graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in 1964. He received his master's degree from the University of Birmingham and his doctorate in fluid mechanics from the prestigious Imperial College of Science and Technology in London.

In addition to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Sarajevo, he lectured as a full professor at the University of Erlangen in Nuremberg, the University of Technology Michigan in the United States, the University of La Sapienza in Rome, and as a visiting lecturer at many prestigious universities around the world (Imperial College of Science and Technology in London, University of Cambridge, University of California, University of Kyoto, University of Singapore, etc.).

Academician Hanjalić has also performed other functions in his professional career: he was Institute of Process Engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Sarajevo director, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Dean, the Mayor of Sarajevo, the Minister of Science and Technological Development in the Republican Government, and the Yugoslav delegate to the Committee for environment at the OECD in Paris. Professor Hanjalić is a full member of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Royal Academy of Technical Sciences of the United Kingdom, a member of numerous scientific and vocational associations in the US, Turkey, Switzerland, Japan, China and other countries and recipient of numerous honors and awards for scientific and research activities.

The election as a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Sciences is another in a series of significant honors that Academician Hanjalić has received over 55 years of scientific and vocational work.
