This year the UNSA Faculty of Electrical Engineering organizes a big international conference - ISGT Europe 2018 (Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Europe 2018). The conference will be held at the Holiday Hotel in Sarajevo from 21st to 25th October 2018.

This conference has been organized eight times in Europe. This one will take place in Sarajevo. The previous conferences’ venues were:

  1. Gothenburg, Sweden - 11-13 October 2010,
  2. Manchester, GB (University of Manchester) - 5-7 December 2011,
  3. Berlin - October 14-17, 2012,
  4. Lyngby, Denmark (Technical University of Denmark - DTU) - 6-9 October 2013,
  5. Istanbul - 12-15 October 2014,
  6. Ljubljana - 9-12 October 2016,
  7. Torino, Italy - 26-29 September 2017.

350 participants from 38 countries have been registered for the conference. 235 expert papers will be presented, organized in two poster and fifteen oral presentations sessions.

The following will take place at the conference:

4 thematic tutorials:

  • Blockchain for Smart Energy Systems,
  • Application of Synchrophasor Technology to Enhance Distribution System Monitoring, Automation and Operations,
  • The Smart Transformer: Impact on the Electric Grid and Technology Challenges,
  • IEEE 1547 Interconnection Standard;  

1 workshop:

  • Workshop - HVDC and FACTS devices and their role in the Future Power Systems,

9 plenary lectures:

  • Industry Trends and Innovations for the Grid of the Future,
  • Microgrids for Energy Transition,
  • Big Data: Opportunities and Challenges,
  • On Power Grid Technologies for a Sustainable Energy System,
  • Control Center Designs: New functions to face the new challenges for a Transmission System Operator,
  • IEC 61850: Cornerstone Technology for the Smart Grid,
  • How about Distributed Energy Resources in the Grid of the Future?,
  • Getting Hands-on Experience with Smart Grids in the EU Horizon 2020 research program,
  • The World Bank Support for Smart Grid Projects in Europe and Central Asia,           

6 panel discussions:

  • Opportunities and challenges of mutual cross-border support among regional Transmission System Operators,
  • Industry Trends, Opportunities, and Innovations for the Grid of Future,
  • Power quality challenges and solutions in transmission networks with high penetration of power electronics – interim results of EU H2020 project MIGRATE,
  • Microgrids as Enablers in DER Integration,
  • HVDC grid protection: developing the protection system of future – interim results of EU H2020 project PROMOTION,
  • CROSSBOW: CROSS-BOrder management of variable renewable energies and storage units enabling a transnational Wholesale market.

All lecturers and panel discussion leaders are eminent experts from the field of Electric Power Engineering.
